I was once a young, outspoken feminist. And, as such, I was incensed when the student union at San Francisco State University was showing a movie in the dining hall that depicted extreme violence against women. It was Halloween, and it was a low budget a horror flick. No problem with that, but the scene I walked in on happened to depict a deranged Santa Claus brutally dragging a beautiful naked woman across the floor. He picked the woman up and impaled her limp body on reindeer antlers. This is not OK. The laughter of the crowd was not OK.
I have been saying for years that biased reporting has been going on longer than just the past 5 years. This article provides proof for those who have short memories. It is sad that they misquoted, embellished and outright lied about what did or did not say and or did.
The difference for me in regards to today's media, than say a few years ago, is that now there seems to be a group think by the media as if they try to protect what they once had allowing the toxic waste they put out while they try to recruit similar thinking by those who consume their biased 'yellow journalism' for survival. They know the jig is up for them sooner rather than later.
Thank you Erica. I thought that a reporters' main responsibility was to report the facts. Today many papers and television news now provide a distorted version to suit the network's or publisher's political leanings, or to support their profit margins. Some go as far as blatantly lying. One used be able to have faith in legitimate media to stand for the truth. How can one vent the barrage of information and propaganda coming from all sides, alternative "news" outlets, radio hosts, and social media when those responsible for factual reporting are not adhering to the basic rules of journalism? Average citizens have to turn into investigative reporters to get to the truth.
