Matt and his cohorts like Chesa, Hilary and Dean are creating supply by supporting the dealers' ability to sell and demand by enabling and attracting a steady stream of addicts. They are market makers. At what point do we start asking them if they are on the controlling cartel's payroll and demand an investigation into their finances, relationships, and soft ties to the criminal gangs?
I'd be shocked if that's true, and I don't shock easily. My guess is the people involved are far bigger names, who stay in the darkness of the business protected by layers of cover. I could be wrong.
In my opinion: junk addiction is incurable - in most cases. I have a SFSU degree, many years military, SFPD 7 yrs, SFFD 18 yrs, 3x fire commissioner in two jurisdictions, taught classes at Synanon for my SFSU degree. Plenty of experience & education. The closest thing to a cure was to round them up in one place, cold turkey, keep them busy & under constant observation. Feeding pigeons has one result. More pigeons. Same with junkies. Enabling & encouraging junkies with more drugs has only one result. Death.
The 700 dead are only the ones not saved by NARCAN which only stopped the thousands saved from death..
Obviously, politicians have no clue or are in on it. Sociologists & MD’s have their own agenda.
We seem to have run out of space to sock junkies away since Australia closed some time ago.
As long as we have the likes of Matt Haney, this problem will never be solved.
That’s cold & hard but the truth from my experience & from what many junkies told me.
Thanks for the brutal truth. Our problem is the phonies who are making money from the suffering of others while religiously virtue signaling their love and compassion for the homeless. There never was any secret to this, other than which rich people are calling the shots and running the show. Your pigeon analogy is so fitting, even rats are cleaner than
Wow. What a succinct, scarily accurate and well written account of what is wrong with San Francisco's District 6 and the progressive socialist who has done more harm and no good!
Matt Haney should resign or be recalled himself.
Haney's lack of engagement, coupled with his public support of D.A. Chesa Boudin has put the whole district close to a state of anarchy.
I agree 100% with everything in your article. Every stupid visor in this city should be tossed out. I'm in the Mission and it is on the same track as District 6. Let's start with recalling Boudin and getting a Law and Order DA. Barberini we need you
I'm with you, but the majority of S.F.'s far Left leaning voters are not. There is a very good reason that S.F. has one part rule. San Francisco is no longer what it used to be, and that is by design of the Progressives from Speaker Nancy Pelosi on down to the School Board.
I'm guessing that many decades and additional changes will have to happen before we see a rebirth of the best of San Francisco - if we ever do. Tell me if you don't get a sense of the old Charlton Heston movie SOYLENT GREEN starting to happen here?
Erica - You seem to understand what's wrong, but you are not the Mayor, DA, or BOS. I'm with you on shut the dealers down, and lock them up, but that is only a starting point. You say it's Haney's fault, but not exactly why. You say he shook his head about recalling Boudin, but you didn't say he shook it yes or no.
Whenever I to go downtown S.F. (now less than ever) I think I need to spray the bottoms of my shoes with Clorox bleach to disinfect them!
thank you, Tony. I don't believe all of this is Haney's fault - however he is a significant part of the larger problem. working on my next piece to explain...
As a retired SFPD Sgt., I was able to visit CJ-6(County Jail) in San Bruno the second day IT was opened. It was already FULL! The criminals know sentencing in SF is easy. They come to this City, a criminals dream crime post, to do their stuff, get a free lawyer and a free meals.
Isn't that at the core of the problem? From the Mayor on down. And where there are punishments, they most often don't fit the crime. Criminals ought to be sentenced to indentured servitude to the state until they've earned enough to pay full financial restoration to their victims whatever time that takes with no minimum and no maximum. Guess what would happen then?
Thomas - Thanks for your service to SF & SFPD. Criminals may be too stupid to apply themselves to doing honest work, but they're generally not dumb. They talk, and learn, and take advantage of the easiest crime opportunities where the lower risk to them is. The BIG Q is why San Francisco leadership ever allowed itself to buy into this newer kinder softer approach to fighting crime?
I all for better police training, and better equipment and tools, and also for twice the police force we have now. I'm also against being too soft, against needless brutality and force, and against firing squads.
Until someone can show me why I'm wrong, I'm against creating any magnets for deadbeats, homeless, and criminals = cut off all the money now enabling those negative quality of life activities.
I have no problem providing text books, or computer assisted educational instruction, and GEDs for any inmate who is actually looking to get out of the crime life, but no fancy food, no TV, no entertainment, no cushy time. Make them work, if they want entertainment, let them sing to each other.
San Quentin has (or used to have) tours for tge public. I mean walk you right down thw catwalk & you can talk to the prisoners. If they still have them, take it. They used to have lunch at the end. Yes, made by the inmates!
From what I hear, not much good ever happens in jail. I always wondered what tourist would find so interesting about visiting Alcatraz. The Q - no thanks.
I'm pretty sure that all of my solutions fall under what the U.S. Constitution refers to as undefined "cruel and unusual punishments."
Just how different is Sup. Haney from all of the rest of the other Sups and the Mayor? None of them stands out to me as a true leader or anyone willing to admit the real problems they have all collectively caused by stubbornly pushing their so called Progressive programs.
Wow, it's refreshing to read accurate and unbiased reporting. Thank you

good question

Terry.
Say it like it is.

SPOT. ON. EXACTLY CORRECT.
thank you, Greg!
you forgot to mention most of the dealers are illegal aliens. Why? Are you scared of pointing this out?
not a bit. most of the dealers are in the US illegally. that actually deserves a story of its own.
Sanctuary status seems to be a sacred cow.
It is!
